Description
Join us at the Magpie Arts Studio in Hygiene, Colorado for this informative and tasty introduction to cheesemaking. Just like creating a beautiful piece of art (this studio is home to the amazing sculpture artist, Margaret Josey-Parker), making cheese is also an art and an act of creativity. Yes, there is science involved, which we’ll teach you about, but there is also art and intuition involved to make truly wonderful cheese. And it’s not as hard to get started as you might think!
In this class Kelly Liebrock, Certified Cheese Professional and Art of Cheese Instructor, will cover a very simple fresh soft cheese called Fromage Blanc which only uses four ingredients including milk you can source from a local farm or even from your local grocery store. You’ll learn each step involved in making this cheese and then we’ll customize some of the finished product into a variety of savory and sweet varieties which you’ll get to eat right on the spot. You’ll also get to sample several other types of cheeses and learn a little about how each one of them is made.
At the end of the class we’ll head out to Margaret’s little barnyard where you’ll get to meet her four friendly dairy goats!
